PTSD CLINICS
~ Help is Available to Vietnam Vets ~
173d Airborne Sky Soldiers will be hosting a full-day of free clinics in Central Florida on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for veterans of the Vietnam War and their spouses. If you are struggling with your military service or war experience, or if you and your spouse are experiencing difficulties in your familial, work or social relationships, you may well be suffering from PTSD. Our belief is everyone who served in the war zone, nearly without exception, was touched in one degree or another by this insidious illness.
In lay terms, PTSD does not mean craziness, as some may think. It means precisely what it says, Stress, and how that stress manifests itself and has impacted your life and continues to impact your life. For many of us, decades later, we’ve come to realize we’ve been infected with the illness far too long, never knowing what was causing us to act the way we do, oft times at the expense of those we love the most, our wives and children. With new advances in therapy, understanding and techniques, help is available to you.
Do you suffer from PTSD? See if any of these physical and emotional symptoms apply to you:
Insomnia…Fatigue…Hyperactivity…Pains in the neck or back…Headaches…Heart palpitations or chest pains
Dizzy spells...Appetite changes...Flashbacks or “reliving” the event...Jumpiness, tendency to easily startle
Irritability...Anger...Feelings of anxiety or helplessness...Feeling vulnerable or overwhelmed...Low motivation
Poor memory recall…Compulsive behavior…Feelings of paranoia
We strongly urge you to attend this free clinic. We believe what sets this program apart from any other in the country is the individual conducting the clinic, Dr. Scott Fairchild. Doc Scott is a Licensed Psychologist in private practice in the State of Florida (PY 6051), a recognized authority on PTSD, Co-Director of Disaster Mental Health Services Support Team at Kennedy Space Center, NASA, and a former LTC, as a Professional officer filler to the 82nd Airborne Division. He also participated in much of the early research on PTSD and developed programs for soldiers retuning from Panama and the Gulf War. Simply put, Doc Scott speaks our language, understands us and our experiences, truly cares for veterans of our country and does the utmost to help vets and their families with healing while concurrently assisting them though accurate and objective assessments in support of their VA claims for PTSD.
After we hear from you a complete agenda will be sent. Pre-registration required. The day-long clinic will be held:
Cocoa Beach, Florida, Saturday, May 12th, 2007
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Vietnam vets only
11:00 a.m. – Noon Joint session, vets and spouses
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Spouses of vets only
Also, each veteran attending will be given the opportunity to complete a PTSD questionnaire, which Doc Scott will use as a screening tool. This free screening will help you determine the degree to which you are impacted by the trauma you experienced and will be critical to future therapy you may choose to undergo. While Doc Scott is willing to make arrangements to provide his excellent and caring therapeutic services at dates following the clinics, for those outside the area he will be pleased to recommend others in the private sector who may assist you. We recommend you find qualified, caring and understanding therapy before filing any disability claims.
Following the day-long clinics, all attendees will be invited to the Cocoa Beach VFW, Post 10148, for an evening of fellowship. Complimentary entertainment and snacks will be provided, while refreshments will be available at normal Post prices. A hotel in Cocoa Beach will be named where the Clinics will be held. We hope many of you will choose to stay there at least the Friday night preceding the Clinics. With enough hotel guests we can negotiate free or a reduced rate for use of their meeting facilities. Please blast this invitation out to your vet buddies.
We again urge you to not miss this unique opportunity to seek and find help – this could be the most important clinic of your life. Please email or call us to let us know of your plans to attend the Clinics and whether or not your spouse will be attending. Kindly include your name, unit served in Vietnam, and your spouse’s name.
